Website planning checklist for small businesses

A useful website starts with a clear brief. Use this checklist to decide what visitors need to know and what you want them to do. You do not need polished copy or a finished brand to start: gather what you have and flag what still needs help.

1. Choose one main goal

Should people call, request a quote, visit your premises or ask about a booking? Pick the main action and give it a clear label. A restaurant may need a menu and directions; a tradesperson may need service areas and a quote request.

2. List the essential pages

Write a short outline for the homepage, services, about and contact information. Add only pages that answer a real customer question. For each page, note the headline, the information it must contain and the next step for the visitor.

3. Gather accurate business information

Prepare your business name, public contact details, opening hours, location or service area, and a plain explanation of what you offer. Check that phone numbers and addresses are current. Tell us which details should appear publicly and which are only for the project.

4. Prepare your photos, logo and copy

Send the clearest original files you have, rather than screenshots of photos. Choose images that show your own work, products or premises, and confirm you may use them. Rough notes are useful too. If something is missing, say so instead of inventing reviews, qualifications or results.

5. Note your domain, languages and special features

If you already own a domain, give its name and note where it is registered. List the languages you need and who can review each translation. Describe any booking system, online store or custom feature before ordering: a larger project may need a separate scope and quote.

6. Plan the checks before launch

Review the private preview on a phone as well as a computer. Check spelling, prices, contact links, opening hours and image permissions. Make sure the main customer action is easy to find. Keep a list of corrections together so the feedback is clear.

How this works with Gojoweb

After ordering, you complete the project brief. The 48-hour preview window starts when we receive that completed brief. You review the preview before launch. New pages or changes after launch are quoted separately; the monthly plan covers hosting and email.
